Since our inception Westminster has been on the forefront of ministry and outreach to the Shoals Community and beyond.  In our early days we began the first Kindergarten in the Shoals.  When the school system took over Kindergartens as part of the state and federal education, our Kindergarten transformed into a pre-school for ages 1-4.  We were instrumental in developing the Help Center and Safeplace in Florence.  We built the first Habitat for Humanity home in the Shoals.  We created, and still run, the Salvation Army Teen Christmas program.  Our ministry reaches numerous children of God in need each and every day.

The Salvation Army Teen Christmas Table

In the late 1980’s Westminster was working with the Salvation Army Christmas Stocking Program.  It became apparent that the program only supported children.  Some of our members began work to provide gifts for families with teens, not just young children.  The program has grown to the point that we now serve some 300 teens each year during the Salvation Army Christmas Stocking distribution. Volunteers and funds exceeding $4000 each year are used to bring the light of Christ into the season.

Westminster has been blessed by God with a fantastic physical plant that is offered to the
community for gatherings, meetings and programs including several AA groups, an artists’ group, neighborhood boards, multi-cultural gatherings, recitals, performances and meetings. Contact the church office for details.
